A firming, revitalizing treatment for skin on the face, neck, and hands with Sephly technology, performed by Dermatologist Dr. Jean-François Tremblay dermatologist dedicated to the practice of cosmetic dermatology, laser and cosmetic surgery at the MédIME clinic in Montreal.
What is Selphyl?
Selphyl is a patented method consisting of an injection of plasma and blood platelets from the patient’s own body; this injection stimulates collagen regeneration and firms the skin. “In other words, it uses the body’s natural reparative resources to rejuvenate the skin,” explains Dr. Tremblay. It’s a revolutionary new way of thinking about rejuvenation treatment!
What Happens During a Selphyl Treatment?
Firstly, Dr. Tremblay must take blood from the patient’s body, generally from the arm, and only a small amount – 4 to 8ml. This sample is then placed in a centrifuge to obtain plasma and blood platelet concentrates which are rich in growth and reparative factors. Within a few minutes, these concentrates are injected with small needles into the patient’s skin in the areas that require rejuvenation. The treatment causes minimal discomfort and does not require anaesthetic cream or the injection of a local anaesthetic.
How Should this Treatment be Used?
This treatment firms and tones the skin, and is appropriate for use on the face, neck, neckline (décolleté), the hands, as well as other body parts.
What are the Side Effects of a Selphyl’s Treatment?
Side effects occur only after treatment, and include temporary redness, swelling, itching or sensitivity, with the possibility of bruising. No serious nor permanent side effects have been reported at this time.
Is Selphyl Safe?
Although it is new to Canada, the Selphyl method has been used by millions of patients in the United States of America and across the globe for several years. As injections only contain the patient’s own blood products, no allergic reactions, nodules, bumps, or rejection issues have been reported at this time.
What Results Can be Expected from Treatment?
Most patients see an improvement in skin firmness mere days after treatment. However, it may take up to 3 to 4 weeks to experience the treatment’s full effects – which is the time it takes for new collagen to form and progressively repair skin tissue. Treatment benefits are reliant on the patient’s body’s own ability to repair itself, as such, results may vary from one individual to another. One or multiple treatments may be required depending on the severity of aging effects on the skin, and the results desired.
Are Selphyl Results Permanent?
The Selphyl method fosters skin repair whose effects are lasting. “Nevertheless, this treatment cannot stop the biological clock’s aging process. Maintenance will generally be required if the patient wishes to continue to diminish the effects of passing years on their skin,” comments Dr. Tremblay.
